Tyler Smith, Daniel Holly lead Glenwood to 2-0 win

Glenwood picked up a 2-0 victory over Tiftarea on Monday thanks, in large part, to a sterling effort on the mound from Tyler Smith.

Smith pitched six innings, allowing just six hits and striking out seven. Tyler Cadenhead finished off the shutout in the seventh inning.

The Gators’ runs came on a two-run home run from Daniel Holly in the fourth inning. He finished 2-for-2 in the game. Carson Hicks went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Northside 4, East Coweta 2

The Northside baseball team took a trip outside of region play on Monday, winning at East Coweta 4-2.

Waggener Davidson picked up the win in relief on the mound, and Chantler Valero went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Drew Haywood added a home run and two-RBIs to the offensive cause.

Northside is 12-4 and will play next on Thursday against Carver at home.

Central-Clay 9, Russell County 6

Russell County gave up seven runs in the first inning and could not dig itself out of the hole in a 9-6 loss to Central-Clay County on Monday.

The Warriors’ deficit extended to 9-1 before they plated five in the sixth to close the gap. Still, they could not complete the comeback.

Austin Slaten went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in the loss. Zach Rice and Matt Wilson each recorded an RBI.

The Glenwood boys tennis team swept Lee-Scott 7-0 Monday in Phenix City.

In singles, Mason Stickles, Blaine Rosier, James Beck, Hueston Nelson and Chase Pennington all picked up victories. The tandems of Stickles/Rosier and Beck/Nelso also won in doubles.

Glenwood is 6-3 overall and 3-2 in region play.

The Glenwood girls tennis team defeated Lee-Scott 5-2 on Monday to clinch the AISA Region 1-3A title.

In singles, Elizabeth Redmon, Abby Redmon, Morgan Kennon and Charley Woodall each picked up wins for the Lady Gators. In doubles, the tandem of Elizabeth and Abby Redmon also won.

Glenwood is 9-1 overall and 5-0 in region play.
