High school roundup: Glenwood girls soccer clinches 4th straight title

The Glenwood girls soccer team capped off its fourth straight AISA state championship win on Saturday in Montgomery, Ala.

The Lady Gators won 2-0 over Tuscaloosa Academy to finish off a perfect 18-0 season. They are 59-2 over the past four seasons.

Whitley Anderson and Cara Obert each contributed a goal, and Lyndsay Daigle notched an assist. Maloreigh Todd recorded five saves in goal.

Teri Hodge, Jordyn Wheeler and Mackenzie Morefield were all named to the All-Tournament team, and Anderson was named tournament most valuable player.

Columbus 5, Marist 4

Columbus plated four runs in the first inning and held off a late rally to top Marist 5-4 on Saturday at home.

Gage Dempsey had a pair of RBIs, and Jackson Mellenberg and Trent Grantham each added one. Jonathan Brand earned the win, and Cason Greathouse struck out two in the seventh to earn a save.

Calvary 12, Ezekiel 2

Jon Jon Brown pitched a no-hitter and recorded three doubles in a 12-2 win for Calvary Christian on Saturday.

Brown pitched a complete game, struck out 10 and allowed two unearned runs. The Knights recorded nine extra base hits overall, including a home run, double and three RBIs from Tyler Hostilo and a triple, double and two RBIs from Cody Russell.

Austin Greathouse and Anthony Garrett earned the wins. Greathouse also had two RBIs in the first game. Sean Mapson added a double and two RBIs against Randolph-Clay. Greathouse was 3-for-3 with two RBIs against Stewart County. Garrett and Mapson both had three RBIs, and Christian Burch had four.

Alexa Shiver picked up the win in the firts game and went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Katie Webb had a double and an RBI against Lee and went 2-for-3 in the loss to James Clemens.
