Citing a commitment to his family, Glenwood football coach Tripp Henderson resigned his post, informing his team on Monday that he would not return for the 2016 season.

Henderson said on Tuesday that his reasoning was simple:

He has daughters of 6 years and 1 year old. The time it requires to be a good coach gets in the way of the time it requires for him to be a good husband and father.

“This is a great place and they’ve treated me like gold since I’ve been here,” Henderson said of Glenwood. “The people, the administration has all been great. It’s just a personal decision. I’m not sure I can give both the time they deserve, and I don’t want to feel like I’m cheating Glenwood.”

Henderson spent the past three years with the Gators, going 11-21 and making the playoffs in each of the past two seasons despite losing records. Henderson also coached the Gators from 2005-07, going 20-12 overall during that period.

In 10 seasons as a head coach, including two at B.B. Comer and two at Russell County, Henderson went 41-63.

Henderson said he wasn’t yet sure what his next move will be. He said he will always support and be a part of Glenwood, where his wife still works and his daughters attend school. As far as being involved in football going forward, time will tell.

“I don’t know where the road will take me,” he said. “I think it’s still too early to tell.”
