Eleven area players in baseball, softball selected to ASWA All-State
Eleven baseball players and 11 softball players each earned mention on their respective ASWA All-State teams this year.
Glenwood’s Carson Hicks led all selections as the AISA pitcher of the year and first-team pitcher after a season in which he went 13-1 with a 1.08 ERA and 92 strikeouts in over 71 innings pitched for the Gators, who won a state championship.
Also in AISA, Tyler Cadenhead, who hit .485 with 10 homers and 58 RBIs, was named first-team catcher, Daniel Holley second-team pitcher, Josh Brown second-team designated hitter and Chase Dennis honorable mention second baseman.
In Class 7A, Slade Gorman (Central) was named first-team catcher and Max Newton (Smiths Station) first-team utility. Central’s Noah Wilkes and Tanner Belcher were named second-team pitcher and utility, respectively, and Smiths Station’s Devin Brown was named second-team shortstop.
Gorman hit .382 with nine home runs and 31 RBIs, and Newton was 6-3 with a 1.96 ERA on the mound and hit .371 with 27 RBIs at the plate.
In softball, Glenwood put three players on the first team after winning a state championship. McKenna Gillespie was first-team pitcher, Kirstin Reynolds first-team catcher and Hope Gullatt first-team outfield. Reynolds hit .443 with 14 home runs and 71 RBIs this season, Gillespie went 36-4 with a 1.46 ERA and 269 strikeouts on the mound, and Gullatt hit .405 with 10 home runs and 55 RBIs.
In Class 7A, Katie Webb (Central) was second-team third base, Gracie Deaton (Central) honorable mention pitcher, Jadia Jones (Central) honorable mention second base and Aly Smith (Smiths Station) honorable mention catcher.
