Breaking down the team
The Good: It seems like every year of its existence, Calvary Christian gets a little more complete. The roster expands, the talent increases and the team’s experience gets better and better. This year, despite losing the single biggest piece of their offensive production to graduation, the Knights again look like a team on the way up. It returns its quarterback, a key receiver and backup running back, who rushed for nearly 1,000 yards a year ago.
The Bad: But, we can’t ignore that key loss at running back. Anthony Santiago was the guy the Knights could rely on for tough yardage every Friday night for the past couple of years, and he is no longer on the team. It would be silly not to recognize how much he meant to the offense. Until we see the offense without him, we can’t say for certain how well the unit will adjust this season.
Our take: The thought here is that they will do just fine. Calvary scheduled some tougher games against competition like Glenwood, Lee-Scott and Whitefield Academy this year in hopes it could be more prepared for a playoff run. A state championship is a reasonable goal for the Knights this year.
