Breaking down the team
The Good: Northside has a number of pieces returning to a defense that helped it finish second in the region last season. Caleb Johnson, Talon Gamble and David Apiag will each have positive impacts on this team this season. Also, having the best kicker, Nathan Robertson, around doesn’t hurt either.
The Bad: Losing a player like Kalan Watts is always going to make things difficult. Watts was a running back that Northside relied on to get the tough yards time and time again over the course of the past couple of seasons. Also, you can’t underestimate the loss of Levi Dunn at quarterback, who had a big impact despite the lack of quantifiable numbers.
Our take: If the Patriots can rely on its replacements for Watts and Dunn, they should be in good position for another strong season. The defense and wide receiving corps look like strengths on this team.
