Carver vs. Spencer

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium

Series record: Carver leads 40-12-1 with 17 straight wins. Spencer’s last win the series came 9-6 in 1998.

Records: Carver 0-1. Spencer 0-0.

Last week: Carver lost to Opelika 34-7. Spencer was idle.

You need to know: Carver had a rough start to the Dre’Mail King era last week in losing at perennial Alabama power Opelika. The Tigers fell behind 20-0 in the first 4:29. Cameron Jessie was the lone bright spot for the offense as he gained 120 yards on 24 carries. … Spencer will be looking to build on the success it had last year. The Greenwave finished 8-4 in its first season under Pierre Coffey. It was the Greenwave’s first winning season since 1977. … The game can be heard on WOKS-AM 1340.

 

Jordan vs. Columbus

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Kinnett Stadium

Series record: Columbus leads 49-28, including three straight wins. The Blue Devils won 37-25 last season. Jordan’s last win came in 2010, 14-9.

Records: Jordan 0-1. Columbus 0-0.

Last week: Jordan lost to Brookstone 49-32. Columbus was idle.

You need to know: Daren Lewis completed 13 of 28 passes for 263 yards and three touchdowns in Jordan’s loss to Brookstone. He added 96 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown. Aaron Maxwell led the Red Jackets with 116 yards on 16 carries. He also scored once. … The game for Jordan was its first with Justin Newman at the helm. … Columbus is looking to build on its 7-4 record from a year ago. It was the Blue Devils’ first winning season since 2005.

 

Hardaway at Harris County

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Tiger Stadium, Hamilton, Ga.

Series record: Harris County leads 8-7, including five straight wins. The Tigers won 49-0 last season

Records: Hardaway 1-0. Harris County 1-0.

Last week: Hardaway beat Troup 21-14. Harris County beat Smiths Station 17-16.

You need to know: Both teams have new coaches — Hardaway’s Michael Woolridge and Harris County’s Zac Howard — who won their respective career debuts last week. … Hardaway’s Michael Gentry had a huge game for the Hawks last week with four sacks. He also recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown. … Antonio Campbell had a pair of interceptions, the second of which came with 14 seconds left as Troup was driving for a tying touchdown. … Calvon Harris led Harris County with 93 yards rushing last week.

 

Shaw at Upson-Lee

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Matthews Field, Thomaston, Ga.

Series record: Shaw leads series 6-0. The last meeting came in 2003, a 41-7 victory for the Raiders.

Records: Shaw 0-0. Upson-Lee 0-0.

Last week: Shaw was idle. Upson-Lee was idle.

You need to know: Shaw went 5-6 last year, its first under Chuck Stamey. … Shaw added Isaiah Carter to the linebacker corps. He is a transfer from Chattahoochee County. … The Raiders lost almost 4,000 yards of production to graduation in quarterback B.J. Knight, running back Sydarrian Cobb and wide receiver Cam Paulding. … This is the first of three MCSD teams that will play at Upson-Lee. Columbus goes next week and Jordan on Sept. 23. … Upson-Lee is led by former Harris County coach Tommy Parks.

 

Kendrick at Troup

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Callaway Stadium, LaGrange, Ga.

Series record: Troup leads series 11-1 with 11 straight wins. The last meeting came in 2009, a 33-6 Troup win. Kendrick’s lone win came 7-6 in 1998.

Records: Kendrick 0-1. Troup 0-1.

Last week: Kendrick lost 25-7 to Northside. Troup lost 21-14 to Hardaway.

You need to know: Adayus Robertson led Kendrick with 41 yards rushing last week. Quarterback Swann Tarver hit Navy Harris for the Cherokees’ lone TD. … Troup quarterback Montez Crowe threw for 271 yards and a touchdown against Hardaway.
