World Series hero is tonight’s starting pitcher for Columbus Clingstones at home
The Atlanta Braves announced Tuesday right-handed pitcher Ian Anderson has been assigned to the Columbus Clingstones’ active roster and will start in the Sept. 2 game against the Montgomery Biscuits at Synovus Park.
This will be Anderson’s first appearance in Double-A since 2019 with the Mississippi Braves, according to the Clingstones’ news release.
Anderson, 27, played a key part on Atlanta’s 2021 World Series championship team. He pitched five no-hit innings in Game 3 against Houston to help the Braves win their first World Series since 1995.
A first-round pick (third overall) in the 2016 Draft, Anderson has made 59 career appearances (52 starts) between Atlanta (2020-22) and the Los Angeles Angels (2025), going 22-14 with a 4.22 ERA and 270 strikeouts over 281.2 innings.
The Clingstones enter the night battling Montgomery for a playoff spot, four games behind Montgomery in the Southern Division second-half standings with 12 games left in the Southern League regular season.
Tickets for tonight’s 7:05 p.m. game and all remaining home games during this final homestand of the Clingstones’ debut season at Synovus Park are available at Clingstones.com. Fans also can listen on SportsVisions 92.1 FM or stream live on Bally Sports Live and MiLB.TV.
The Braves traded Anderson to the Los Angeles Angels in March after a poor spring training, but the Angels designated him for assignment in April due to a high ERA and too many walks. The Braves reclaimed him off waivers, but he again was designated for assignment without making an appearance. Anderson has struggled since coming back from Tommy John surgery in 2023.
