Update: Cory Rasmus pitches three innings for Braves

Update: Cory Rasmus entered Tuesday's first game in the fourth inning. He gave up a home run to John Buck, the first person he faced in the inning. After giving up a single to Juan Lagares, he got Omar Quintanilla to ground out and then struck out Matt Harvey. Collin Cowgill lined out for the third out, stranding Lagares at third.

He gave up a hit in the fifth before forcing a double play and striking out the third batter of the inning. He didn't allow a hit in the sixth. He struck out three over three innings and lowered his ERA to 8.10.

Original: The Atlanta Braves called up former Russell County High School standout Cory Rasmus for today's doubleheader against the N.Y. Mets.

This will be Rasmus' second stint with the big-league club. Rasmus was with Atlanta for a week in May. He and brother Colby Rasmus, an outfielder for the Toronto Blue Jays, faced off May 27. Colby Rasmus won the battle with a sharply hit double.

Cory Rasmus will be the 26th man on the roster due to a new rule that allows Major League rosters to expand for doubleheaders.

Rasmus appeared in two games during his seven-day stay. He struggled in both appearances, giving up three home runs. He left with a 12.27 ERA.

Since moving back to Triple-A, Rasmus has appeared in six games. He's earned one win and three saves in that time, giving up two runs over 5 2-3 innings.
