Why a Muscogee County middle school football team canceled the rest of its season

A Columbus middle school football team has canceled the rest of its season.

Double Churches Middle School won’t play any more football games this year, Muscogee County School District communications director Kimberly Wright confirmed Tuesday to the Ledger-Enquirer.

The reason is “due to internal disciplinary matters that have resulted in an insufficient number of eligible players,” she said in email.

“The school recognizes the disappointment this may cause for student-athletes, cheerleaders, families and the broader community,” Wright said. “As always, the priority is to support students, focus on growth and continue building a program that reflects the strength and spirit of the district and school community.”
