Clark set to compete in pole vault final at U.S. Olympic Trials
Megan Clark (Columbus High) will compete to try and earn a berth on the U.S. Olympic Track and Field team on Sunday.
Clark is one of 14 who will compete in the pole vault finals at 5:30 p.m. at Hayward Field.
Clark qualified for the final on a rainy Friday night. She missed her first attempt at the opening height of 4.25 meters, but made it on her second try. She cleared 4.30 meters and 4.35 meters on her first attempts.
Those who qualify on Sunday will compete in the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro next month.
The pole vault finals will be available online at nbcsports.com.
Clark has also been nominated for the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
The award, in its 26th year, honors graduating female college athletes who have “distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service and leadership.” according to a news release from Duke.
Clark set school and ACC records this past season with a vault of 4.63 meters. She placed fifth in the NCAA outdoor championships.
