Alabama, Auburn, Georgia gymnasts ranked in top 10

It looks like it is going to be a very strong year for gymnastics in the Southeastern Conference.

In the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women Preseason Poll, five SEC teams are ranked in the top 10.

LSU is ranked No. 2, Alabama No. 3, Florida No. 5, Auburn No. 8 and Georgia No. 9.

Also in the top 25 are Arkansas at No. 17 and Kentucky at No. 21.

Alabama received five first place votes and Florida received two.

Ranked No. 1 in the poll is Oklahoma.

UCLA is No. 4, Utah is No. 6, Michigan is No. 7, and California is No. 10.

Auburn’s ranking is its highest ever in the preseason poll.

“Being ranked eighth is very rewarding for this young team,” said Auburn coach Jeff Graba on the team’s website. “It means a lot because it is a poll of peers and other coaches around the country. This ranking is yet another record for Auburn gymnastics and I believe it shows that all our hard work continues to pay off.”

Auburn kicks off the 2017 season at home Jan. 6 vs. No. 13 Oregon State.
