Local golf roundup: Columbus' Beck fourth at Junior All-Star
PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — Michael Hines of Acworth, Ga., and Amira Alexander of Alpharetta, Ga., both came from behind to win their respective divisions at the Junior All-Star at Callaway Gardens’ Mountain View Course on Thursday.
The field was made up of 81 top juniors from 17 states and the District of Columbia.
Hines, Hank Lebioda of Winter Springs, Fla., and Winburne Hughes of Memphis, Tenn., competed in a sudden-death playoff after they were tied at 6-over 222 after the final round. Hines won with a 1-over 73.
Columbus’ Jimmy Beck finished tied for fourth with Wade Chen of Orlando, Fla.
South defeats North at GHSGCA event
Georgia High School Golf Coaches Association (GHSGCA) hosted its second Senior All-Star tournament in Moultrie, Ga., at Sunset CC.
The South team defeated the North 16.5 to 7.5 in a two-day Ryder Cup format.
Local participants were Brandon Webb and Tyler Graddy, both were on the south team.
