Columbus Cottonmouths

On to Huntsville!

The Snakes will face Huntsville in round 2 of the SPHL playoffs after the Havoc stunned top-seeded Augusta in round one.

Here is the round 2 schedule:

  • Game one...Wednesday, April 4... at Huntsville
  • Game two...Friday, April 6...at Columbus
  • Game three (if necessary)...Saturday, April 7...at Columbus

With the defeat of the number 1 seed, the Snakes will now have home ice advantage throughout the playoffs. Take a minute to digest that, Snakes fans.

The Cottonmouths had a perfect 6-0 regular-season record against Huntsville, but that's very deceiving. The two teams concluded their season series on Feb. 21, long before serious internal struggles befell the Havoc and they made a coaching change. Former Snake Randy Murphy stepped down and leading scorer Glenn Detulleo moved behind the bench.

Congratulations to the Havoc for a gutsy performance. They suffered a heartbreaking OTL to the RiverHawks in game one, when they were only 12 seconds from a win in regulation. They came back and posted a one-goal win of their own in game 2, setting up the anti-climactic game tonight.

Very shocking at the start of tonight's game. Goalie Peter Skoggard gave up three goals in the first seven shots he faced. Coach Brad Ralph yanked Skoggard and put in Jon Olthuis, who didn't fare a lot better. He also gave up three goals, but over the vourse of the rest of the game.

Time to make travel plans, now that I know who the Snakes are facing.

Stay tuned.
