Longtime Columbus plastic surgeon found dead
A well known Columbus plastic surgeon Thomas “Butch” Cochran Jr. was found dead in a pond by his Harris County home Friday.
Harris County coroner Joe Weldon said an investigation is being conducted but no foul play is suspected.
Weldon pronounced the 71-year-old Cochran dead at 11:19 p.m.
“It is a great shock,” said Joe McCrea. a major in the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office.
McCrea played with the doctor in the local adult hockey league.
“He was a big fan of the Columbus Cottonmouths,” said McCrea.
A University of Georgia graduate, Cochran has served on the board of directors of the Chattahoochee Council of Boy Scouts and on the board of the St. Francis Hospital Association.
He began practicing medicine here in 1977.
