Georgia Power continues herbicide treatments to invasive lake weeds
Georgia Power issued an advisory against drinking lake water or using it for irrigation as the company applies an aquatic herbicide to portions of Lake Harding, Goat Rock and Lake Oliver to control nuisance aquatic plants. The herbicide will be applied Thursday, Aug. 24 and Friday, Aug. 25.
The treatment is designed to maintain navigation connectivity to the main lake. It can help clear the waterways of hydrilla and other invasive aquatic weeds, a representative from Georgia Power said.
There are no restrictions for swimming, fishing, or boating in the areas, but people are advised not to drink the water or use it to water plants, gardens or crops for three full days after the treatment.
