Harris County issues Code Red for storm: ‘Please stay indoors and off the roads’

Harris County Emergency Management issued a Code Red on Monday morning encouraging all citizens to stay indoors and off the roads.

“The high winds are estimated to be here this afternoon,” according to the robo call and texts that residents received at about 10:18 a.m. “There will be trees and power lines down. Please stay inside and away from downed power lines.”

Officials admonished citizens to refrain from going out to inspect the damage.

“Roads will be blocked, road and utility crews will be out working,” they said. “Once the storm winds reach 40 miles an hour, all public safety vehicles will be shut down for safety reasons.

“We’re experiencing power outages in Ellerslie and Waverly Hall at this time. Please don’t call 911 if your power is out. The power companies are monitoring their systems.”
