Coroner identifies man found dead in pickup truck at Columbus Walmart
The body discovered in a car in the parking lot of the Walmart on Airport Thruway on Monday was a 59-year-old homeless man, Muscogee County Chief Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley said.
David Michael Rodgers was from Villa Rica, Ga., Worley said Tuesday morning.
His body was discovered in the floorboard of a white Dodge Ram 1500 pickup that was parked on the back east corner of the Walmart. The call to 911 around 4 p.m., Worley said.
The death was from natural causes, Worley said.
“There was no foul play, no visible injuries, no gunshot wounds, no stab wounds or anything like that,” he said.
The Walmart security cameras recorded the truck entering the parking lot on April 8 and it never left the area, Worley said.
The body showed signs of advance decomposition, leaving Worley to determine he had been dead since shortly after parking at the Walmart.
Columbus police used crime tape to seal off the area as shoppers went in and out of the busy Walmart and nearby stores and restaurants.
