Hugley chooses candidate for new Community Reinvestment Director

City Manager Isaiah Hugley has selected current Columbus Consolidated Government Community Reinvestment Division Manager, Laura Johnson to fill the position of the Director of Community Reinvestment.

Hugley will go before Columbus Council for approval of his appointment on Tuesday, July 12, the next scheduled business meeting of the council.

Johnson comes to CCG with over 15 years of experience in the public sector. Since April 2015, she has worked as the Community Reinvestment Division Manager for CCG’s Community Reinvestment Division. Prior to working in this position, she worked for the city of Albany as a program manager for their Community and Economic Development Department from 2008-2015. She also worked as a project administrator for Albany from 2006-2008.

“Laura’s knowledge, background, and experience in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Home Programs, along with the relationships and respect she has built at the state and federal levels, have opened doors of opportunity for the CCG and the citizens of Columbus far beyond our imagination,” said Hugley.

Johnson graduated Cum Laude from Georgia Southwestern State University with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration in 2004, and she also holds a Master’s in Public Administration degree from Valdosta State University.

“I am extremely excited for this new opportunity,” said Johnson. “I look forward to serving in this role and providing great services to the city of Columbus.”

Johnson was born and raised in Southgate, Mich., and moved to Pelham, Ga., when she was 15. She has been in Columbus for more than a year now. She is married to Will Johnson, the CCG Planning Division Manager. They have seven children ranging from 25 to 10 years old.
