Investigators say death of baby boy is suspicious

Investigators from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in Opelika, Ala. are calling the death of a 15-month-old boy suspicious.

According to an official report, the body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensics in Montgomery, Ala. for a post mortem examination in an effort to determine specific cause and manner of death.

Officers received a call at 4:46 a.m. CDST Saturday reporting a medical issue involving a child from a residence off Lee Road 427 (Pierce Road) just north of Phenix City and found the non-responsive child.

After being found by officers from the sheriff’s office the child was transported to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators are interviewing several individuals who had recent contact with the child.
