Man killed by stolen SUV in Phenix City during police chase
One man is dead after the Nissan Murano he was riding in was struck by another vehicle being chased by Columbus police.
According to an official report, the crash occurred Saturday at approximately 7:34 p.m. at Crawford Road and 17th Avenue.
The name of the victim has not been released. A female passenger in the Murano was transported to Midtown Medical Center for treatment. There was no report about her condition.
Dezhaun Shynotez Dumas, 18, whom police say was driving a black Honda CRV reported stolen, has been charged in Alabama with murder, assault in the second degree, and bringing stolen property across state line. He is currently in Midtown Medical Center and will have to be extradited.
Robert Fletcher, 18, who was in the vehicle with Dumas, has been released from the Medical Center and is currently in the Muscogee County Jail on the charge of theft by receiving stolen property.
