Several people saw two men having sex Wednesday afternoon behind a mental health organization in Columbus, according to testimony Thursday in Recorder’s Court.

Willie May Evans, 58, and Ronald Barksdale, 56, pleaded not guilty to one count of public indecency. They were both ordered held in the Muscogee County Jail under a $250 bond.

Judge Julius Hunter bound the case over to State Court.

Columbus Police Officer Andrew Fairbanks was called to the New Horizons Behavioral Health organization at 1220 Second Avenue around 12:10 p.m. Wednesday to investigate a public indecency incident.

An employee told police that she saw the men having sex between the maintenance building and New Horizons. Officials said several others also witnessed the incident.

“It caused a disruption, obviously, to all the patients inside,” Fairbanks testified.

Police spoke with Barksdale, who is homeless, and Evans on the scene. They initially denied having sex outside of the business, Fairbanks told the court.

“Upon further questioning, Mr. Barksdale did admit that this incident did take place,” Fairbanks said.

They were both taken into custody on the scene at 12:40 p.m.

Evans and Barksdale, who were represented by public defenders, didn’t testify in court.
