Man dies after Fourth of July knife attack in Columbus

A Columbus man died Friday afternoon, three days after he was stabbed during an event on July 4, Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley said.

Pedro Juan Carmoega, 36, was pronounced dead at 2:30 p.m. at Midtown Medical Center in Columbus. His body will be transported to the crime lab in Decatur for an autopsy.

Worley said Carmoega had a cut to his neck and a stab wound to his chest during the incident on Big Creek Place.

No suspect has been arrested in connection with the homicide which remains under investigation by the Columbus Police Department.

The stabbing was the second death from a homicide on Friday. Brandon Scott, 34, of Phenix City was pronounced dead of a gunshot at 2:52 a.m. Friday at the hospital.
