Suspect charged with murder in Oakland Park shooting
Columbus police have arrested a second suspect in the Nov. 5, 2014, shooting death of Robert Earl Bolden outside Riverwind Apartments in Oakland Park.
Adrian Patterson, 26, of Cusseta, Ga., was taken into custody at noon Thursday by the Chattahoochee County Sheriff’s Office after a Muscogee County grand jury indicted him in connection with the death of Bolden on his 44th birthday. Patterson is charged with one count each of murder, aggravated assault and armed robbery and is being held without bond in the Muscogee County Jail.
Police arrested Gary Jones, 24, shortly after the shooting in the parking lot at Hawthorne Drive and Riverland Drive. He was charged with one count each of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
During a court hearing for Jones, a police detective said there were two occupants in a Geo Metro leaving the scene after the shooting. Police tracked the tag number and talked to the vehicle’s owner who said Jones and another person were passengers in the car. As part of the investigation, police said the car initially left the area without Jones and the owner.
Police said Bolden and Jones talked before they ended up outside Riverwind Apartments. Jones arrived in the Geo Metro before the suspect and Bolden engaged in some type of physical altercation.
Jones is accused of firing three shots at Bolden, striking him once in the upper torso. Police said they found a gun and bullets at the scene but didn’t believe it was the gun that killed Bolden.
