Driver injured after tree strikes BMW on River Road

The driver of a SUV was injured Monday after a huge oak tree fell across River Road in Columbus, police said.

The woman was taken to Midtown Medical Center after the 1 p.m. crash about a half mile from Old River Road. No report was available on her condition.

As tropical storm Irma moved through the city, the X3 BMW was headed north on River Road as the tree fell across the road, temporarily blocking both lanes of traffic on the road.

Police blocked northbound traffic in the area until the wreckage and the downed tree were removed from the roadway. The BMW had extensive damage to it roof and hood.
