Man shot near Lucky Food Mart on Floyd Road dies
One of two men shot Friday night near the Lucky Food Mart on Floyd Road has died.
Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said 20-year-old Nicholas Xavier Morris was pronounced dead, the result of being shot, at 9:26 a.m. Sunday at Midtown Medical Center.
Friday, a Columbus patrol officer was patroling on Floyd Road when the shooting occurred around 8 p.m.
Police Sgt. C. Hickman was traveling north on Floyd Road when he heard gunfire in the parking lot of the convenience store.
After pulling into the parking lot, he saw a black four-door vehicle fleeing out of the north driveway and heading west on Hunter Road. The vehicle then continued north on Floyd Road.
One gunshot victim was found lying on the ground on the east side of the parking lot. Other officers arrived and located a second victim lying on in the street on Kingsberry Drive. Kingsberry is just west across from Floyd Road.
Both were taken to Midtown Medical Center.
Police did not specify whether the shootings are related.
