Harris County prison inmate walks away from work detail

The Georgia Department of Corrections is searching for a state inmate after he walked away from a work detail Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Inmate Stephan Delaney, 29, was with a supervised work detail at the Harris County Cemetery when he went missing about 10 a.m., warden Cynthia Nelson said late Wednesday. Delaney was an inmate at the Harris County Correctional Institution on Highway 116 in Hamilton.

Nelson said Delaney was still at large about 8:30 p.m.

Delaney is described as black, about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair.

According to the Georgia Department of Corrections, Delaney had been serving a 10-year sentence at the Harris County prison since October 2017 on a burglary first degree and possession of a firearm charges from Fulton County.

The prison is a medium security facility for state and county inmates.
