Man dies after crash at Cross Country Plaza

A Fort Mitchell, Ala., man died Monday night after he went into cardiac arrest and crashed his vehicle on Macon Road, the Muscogee County Coroner’s Office said.

Stanley L. Garner, 58, was pronounced dead at 8:26 p.m. at Piedmont Medical Center, said Deputy Coroner Charles Newton.

Columbus police were called Monday at 7:34 p.m. to the Cross Country Plaza shopping center at 3201 Macon Road in reference to a vehicle crash.

Newton said Garner was leaving the Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet when he went into cardiac arrest, causing his vehicle to strike a Dumpster enclosure at the Chevron gas station.

He was taken to Piedmont where he was pronounced dead. There will be no autopsy as the death has been ruled natural.
