Columbus police searching for car used in drive-by shooting that left 74-year-old dead
Columbus police are looking for a late model, light colored Kia Soul in connection to the weekend homicide of 74-year-old William Meadows at his Alta Vista Drive home.
Meadows was found shot to death Sunday morning. Columbus police were called to the scene around 10:31 a.m., according to a news release from officials. Upon arrival, officers discovered Meadows deceased in his vehicle.
Meadows was pronounced dead of gunshot wounds at 11 a.m., said Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan. He said it appears Meadows had been dead since about 4 p.m. Saturday. The garage doors were open.
After two days of investigating, police said they have zeroed in on a late-model Kia Soul. That vehicle was observed driving down Alta Vista Drive when the shots were fired, said Columbus police Lt. Greg Touchberry.
People in the vicinity of Alta Vista reported to officers that they heard shots going through the tree line behind their houses, he said.
Police are asking for anyone that has information about the vehicle or the homicide to call Cpl. Stuart Carter at 706-225-4319 or stuartcarter@columbusga.org.
