A Columbus man wanted for a July 2015 homicide was gunned down early Sunday morning and his body was found off a main road in south Columbus, police said.

Terry Cobb, who was being sought by authorities in the July 4, 2015, Columbus homicide of Blake Berry, was found at the corner of Cusseta Road and 21st Avenue with a gunshot wound, coroner Buddy Bryan said.

Robbery and Assault detectives were called to the scene around 5 a.m., shortly after patrol officers arrived. Cobb was found in a grassy area near a utility pole. The coroner would not elaborate on details of the shooting.

Cobb, 29, was pronounced dead at 6:07 a.m. at Midtown Medical Center, according to Bryan.

There are no suspects in custody and no motive, police Lt. Consuelo Askew said Sunday after as the investigation continued.

Cobb’s death comes about two weeks after his brother was also shot to death in Columbus. Holloway was shot on June 18. Torrance Menefee, a friend police say he was arguing with, has been charged with murder. Menefee pleased not guilty in Columbus Recorder’s Court and he was ordered held in the Muscogee County Jail without bond.

Attorney Stacey Jackson, who is representing Menefee, has called it a “self-defense case.” Menefee turned himself into authorities.

“At this time, we don’t think the murders of the bothers are related,” Askew said. “We don’t have anything at this point to indicate that they are.”

Police are also looking into the connection to the July Fourth holiday weekend homicide of Berry a year ago. Berry was dropped off a year ago at Midtown Medical Center with fatal gunshot wounds.

Cobb was one of three suspects in Berry’s death. The other two are family friend Joseph Delaney Kimble, 32, and Brittany Varner, 27.

Cobb was released from prison on July 24, 2013, after serving a year of a five-year sentence on three counts of obstruction of a law enforcement officer and a misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana, according to records from the Georgia Department of Corrections. He was accused of throwing punches, kicking and trying to bite three police officers on Aug. 7, 2011. The murder warrant was issued last September.

It is the 14th homicide in Columbus this year.

“We are asking anyone with any information about the murder of Cobb to vontact Sergeant Wendy Holland at 706-225-4453, the Fugitive Squad or the Robbery/Assault Unit at 706-653-3400,” Askew said.
