Boy, 15, charged with murder in LaGrange shooting on North Cary Street

A 15-year-old boy was charged as an adult in connection with the Sunday night shooting on North Cary Street that killed 25-year-old Quentin D. Williams, according to a news release from the LaGrange Police Department.

Authorities said Jerry Carston, the accused, was arrested around 11 p.m. Monday at his Revis Street home. He faces one count of murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a person under 18 and participation in criminal street gang activities.

Carston was transported to a Youth Detention Center after being booked into the Troup County Jail, according to police.

Authorities said they responded shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday to the area of 51 North Cary St. to check on a gunshot wound victim. Upon arrival, they found Williams lying on a sidewalk in the same block as his home. He had multiple gunshot wounds.

He was transported to Well Star Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Officials said the initial investigation revealed that Williams was speaking with a young man in the area just prior to shots being fired. After the shots rang out, witnesses said the victim was lying on the sidewalk and the suspect was running from the scene, heading toward Hogansville Road.

Authorities said the investigation into the shooting is ongoing and anyone with information about it should call the LaGrange Police Department at 706-883-2603.
