Update: Auburn man, 49, arrested in deadly Lee County stabbing
The man who authorities said was dating 47-year-old Mickie Chiffone Mack when she was fatally stabbed Wednesday night in her Lee County residence has been arrested in connection with her death.
Don Albert Smith, 49, of Auburn was apprehended at his home near the crime scene at 12 a.m. EDT Thursday and charged with murder. He is currently being held in the Lee County Detention Facility under a $150,000 bond.
Lee County sheriff’s deputies responded around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to a possible stabbing at a Loachapoka residence on Lee Road 4. They found Mack unresponsive on her living room floor with multiple stab wounds to the back and torso areas of her body, authorities said in a news release.
Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said he pronounced her dead at the scene at 10:35 p.m. Her body was taken to the medical examiner’s office of the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for a postmortem examination, he added.
Investigators said they have not determined the motive behind the stabbing.
