Muscogee County School District awards schools for academic growth
The Muscogee County School District has honored some of its schools for the academic improvement their students have produced relative to their peers.
The district’s SGP Awards, measured by the Student Growth Percentile, are based on the 2015 results of the state’s standardized tests, called the Georgia Milestones Assessment System, because the Georgia Department of Education hasn’t finished calculating the 2016 SGP, Muscogee Superintendent David Lewis told the Ledger-Enquirer in an email Friday.
Elementary school winners included Reese Road Academy for most growth in English Language Arts and science, Johnson Elementary for mathematics, Gentian Elementary for social studies, and Dimon Elementary for science.
Middle school winners were Double Churches Middle for English Language Arts, Blackmon Road Middle for mathematics and Social Studies, and Aaron Cohn Middle for science.
Schools achieving the greatest improvement on high school subject tests were Early College Academy for ninth-grade literature, Northside High for coordinate algebra, Hardaway High for biology, and one middle school, Veterans Memorial for coordinate algebra and physical science.
Academic peers are defined as other students statewide with a similar test score history. The SGP shows how much a student’s academic performance improves each year.
The percentiles range from 1 as the lowest growth to 99 as the highest growth. The SGP is divided into three categories: Low Growth, Typical Growth and High Growth. The SGP allows all students to demonstrate growth, regardless of their achievement level.
These awards from MCSD are based on the percentage of students with Typical Growth or High Growth at each grade level and on each Georgia Milestones test in 2015.
