A television documentary on the Murdaugh family will be shown on Netflix on Feb. 22, a month after Alex Murdaugh goes on trial for the murders of his wife and son.

The streaming site on Tuesday released a trailer for the three-part series, Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal.

Jury selection in the Murdaugh trial begins Jan. 23. He is charged with shooting his wife Maggie and son Paul at their expansive estate in Islandton, South Carolina, on June 7, 2021.

He was arrested in July 2022. He also faces dozens of charges relating to financial crimes.

E! News published an exclusive story on the Netflix series Tuesday, saying, “those most closely involved attempt to make sense of the years of dishonesty, misdeeds and misfortune that followed around a powerful family—and forever changed a small town in the process.”

E! News said the Murdaugh’s lives began unraveling after a friend of Paul’s — Mallory Beach died in a boating accident after a night of drinking.

“When Paul Murdaugh — the alleged driver of the boat — and his mother Maggie are found brutally murdered, a century of corruption, power, and cover-ups in the Low Country is brought to light,” E! News says.

Interviewed for the Netflix show were Paul’s longtime girlfriend Morgan Doughty, Mallory’s childhood friends Miley Altman and Connor Cook and Mallory’s boyfriend Anthony Cook.

Several other channels have aired series on the Murdaughs including CNN and HBO Max.

This story was originally published January 17, 2023 at 3:34 PM with the headline "Netflix offers sneak peek of upcoming docuseries on Murdaugh murders in SC. Have a look."
