This witchy Disney+ series was filmed in GA. Here’s what I think of the show so far
It’s the season of the witch and Disney+ got the memo.
“Agatha All Along” premiered on Disney+ in September with a two episode debut. It’s been described as “the perfect show for Halloween,” and the series has a solid score of 82% on the Rotten Tomatometer.
If you’re unfamiliar with the show and curious about whether or not to watch, we’ve got you covered. And if you’re already a fan, check out my review.
What’s ‘Agatha All Along’ about?
If you’re new to the show (like I was), there are several things to know before you begin watching. For one, the show is a part of the Marvel universe, which means some of the characters are from another show. In this case, some of the main characters are from “WandaVision.”
However, if you don’t have time to watch “WandaVision” or just want to dig into Agatha right off the bat, here’s what to know:
In episode one, we find Agatha as a somewhat melancholic police detective trying to piece together a mysterious murder. However, her mortal life is quickly turned upside down when she realizes she’s actually a witch living under a spell put on her by another witch. So, she snaps out of her mundane life and enters into a witchy world, full of wonder, mischief and some dark memories, as she attempts to regain her precious magic.
And that’s a wrap. Well, basically.
Where is the show filmed?
Similar to the several of the other Marvel movies and shows, “Agatha All Along” was shot in Georgia, mostly in the Atlanta area.
Here’s what I think of the series so far
Forbes writer Erik Kain calls the show “quite good, with some funny bits, some scary bits,” and I completely agree.
The series is filled with spooky moments, plot twists and several lively musical numbers (because why not?) and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I am enjoying it. I’m on episode four, so I’m not completely caught up on all the episodes available to stream, but here are some things I’m loving so far:
Kathryn Hahn, who plays Agatha Harkness, in the show not only kept true to her humorous side, but she really delivers in terms of the seriousness that the role needs.
I like that the series isn’t overly scary or gory and is lighthearted in some parts.
I’m a huge fan of anything Aubrey Plaza does, so when I saw her listed as Rio Vidal on the show, I couldn’t resist. Hahn and Plaza are a dream team coven.
The mystery of the identity of the “Teen” is really keeping me on my toes. I heard it’s a big plot twist, so I’m here for the mind-blowing reveal. It better be good.
I am intrigued by the back story of Agatha – is she really evil? I’m not too sold that she truly is; rather, I think she’s done some very questionable things, but her journey seems to be pointing to the good side. But I could always be wrong.
The deaths have been really keeping me on my toes. I obviously won’t spoil any here, but just be ready for some quick and unexpected ends. No one is safe, it seems.
All in all, I give the show a 4 out of 5 stars. It’s entertaining, witty and enchanting.
New episodes of the show stream every Wednesday only on Disney+.
