Columbus best among local schools in GADA’s Director’s Cup

After another strong 2016-2017 school year, Columbus High School has claimed top billing among local high schools in the Georgia Athletic Directors Association’s Regions Bank Director’s Cup.

Columbus finished fifth in Class 4A in the annual Director’s Cup standings. The Blue Devils finished seventh among the boys in their classification, while the girls took third place. Columbus claimed four GHSA titles during the past school year: one-act play, girls basketball, and boys and girls golf.

The top-five finish came in Columbus’ first year after rejoining Class 4A. The school took home sixth in 5A during the 2015-2016 school year.

Columbus was one of only two local schools to finish in the top 10 of their respective classifications. Fellow Class 4A member Northside took ninth in Class 4A with an eighth-place finish by the boys and a 10th-place finish by the girls.

Now in its 18th year of existence, the Director’s Cup was created to recognize the athletic departments in all GHSA classifications which have excelled and shown superior performance. The top schools in each classification are awarded a Director’s Cup Trophy as well as a wall banner.
