1. Double Churches homicide suspect beaten by 15 inmates, now in Harris County Jail: Akeveius Powell, one of two suspects in custody in the June 15 slaying at Double Churches Park, has been moved out of the Muscogee County Jail after being attacked twice by other inmates, his attorney told the Ledger-Enquirer on Friday. Powell’s attorney, Susan Henderson, said he had been beaten by 15 inmates hours after being booked into the jail on Monday. He was beaten again Thursday. Later that day he was transferred, an official confirmed.

2. Official: Plane makes emergency landing in Harris County on I-185: A plane made a safe emergency landing Monday morning on Interstate 185 northbound in Harris County. There were no reported injuries. A GSP official said it’s a possibility that the plane ran out of fuel, but that the situation is under investigation.

3. Parks and Rec Director James Worsley leaving the city: Columbus Parks and Recreation Director James Worsley is leaving the Consolidated Government to take a job in Chesterfield, Va., he told his staff in an email Tuesday morning. Worsley called the moment “bittersweet.” He came to Columbus in March 2011 and took over a department that had been plagued by controversy and even criminal behavior.

4. Judge rules in city’s favor in Sheriff Darr lawsuit: A Macon Superior Court judge has issued two rulings that all but eliminate Muscogee County Sheriff John Darr’s lawsuit against the city and much of its leadership, City Attorney Clifton Fay said Tuesday. Mayor Teresa Tomlinson said she and the other defendants are grateful for the court’s “clear application of the law.” “The city has been vindicated from these reckless and irresponsible claims,” she said.

5. $150 million Great Wolf Resorts indoor water park, lodging coming to LaGrange: A Wisconsin company that operates indoor water parks and lodging attractions across the United States is bringing the concept to LaGrange, Ga., by 2018. Great Wolf said the LaGrange complex will encompass nearly 500,000-square-feet of space, with a 93,000-square-foot indoor water park its centerpiece. There will be 456 themed suites for overnight stays.
