1. Man wanted in 2015 July 4th homicide found shot to death on Cusseta Road: Terry Cobb, who was being sought by authorities in a July 4, 2015, homicide, was found dead July 3 off a main road in south Columbus. Police said Cobb’s death came about two weeks after his brother, Kenneth Holloway Jr., was also shot to death. There are no suspects in custody and no motive.

2: NAACP calls for termination of Columbus crime prevention director: The NAACP called for Mayor Teresa Tomlinson to fire Seth Brown from his position as crime prevention director after he posted a controversial photo on Facebook. “When you’re checking out at Walmart and realize you have the makings of what looks to be some kind of Redneck bomb,” Brown posted along with the photo. Tonza Thomas, NAACP president, said Brown’s comments come at a time when violent crime and terrorism are big concerns in Columbus and across the nation. The mayor said Brown won’t be terminated for free speech

3. Family of teen killed at Wilson Homes speaks out: The family of the 16-year-old girl killed July 1 spoke out about the slaying after the suspect appeared in Columbus Recorder’s Court on Tuesday. Shondrell Reese, Lekeshia Moses’ sister, broke down in tears as she spoke about the pain of not knowing the reason behind her younger sibling’s death. “If I knew the story, I would be OK,” Reese said. “I would accept it. But right now I can’t walk around every day and not know what happened to my little sister. I can’t live like that.”

4. Tree police in Columbus Historic District? Are you kidding me?: Chuck Williams introduced us to Eric Gansauer, the city’s forestry administrator who has been a busy man in recent weeks working the lower end of Broadway in the Historic District. His job is to enforce the tree ordinance, and he takes it seriously.

5. Two 19-year-old women arrested after allegedly having sex in front of children: Kasey Dixon of Columbus and Rashay Avery of Atlanta were arrested Wednesday after allegedly “performing sexual acts” with each other in front of two juveniles at a Milgen Road apartment complex in June, Columbus police said in an arrest report. The women faced child molestation charges in connection with the crime.
