Columbus among top 50 cities nationwide for number of barbecue restaurants, study says

One of the top 50 cities for barbecue is right here in the Chattahoochee Valley, according to Apartment Guide.

Columbus comes in at No. 21 on the apartment website’s list.

To determine the rankings, researchers looked at the percentage of barbecue restaurants to all restaurants in a city’s area. Columbus came in with 7.4% barbecue restaurants in the area and 13.91 restaurants per 100,000 people.

According to the website, researchers looked at about 6,300 cities with at least one barbecue restaurant in the city. Then after filtering out cities with less than 50,000 people and dividing the number of barbecue restaurants compared to total restaurants, they got their ranking.

Other Georgia cities that made the list include Smyrna, Albany, Marietta and Macon. Alabama cities Montgomery, Birmingham and Decatur made the list as well, as numbers 25, 23 and 6, respectively.

The best place in the country for barbecue is Memphis, TN, according to the list.
