A new late-night eatery is scheduled to open in Columbus this spring.

Owners of Uptown Tap, 1024 Broadway, plan to open Munchies, 1020 Broadway, replacing the former Picasso’s Pizza. serving comfort foods like burgers and mac-and-cheese.

Munchies is set to open in early May.

Ryan Lake, co-owner of Uptown Tap and Munchies, told the Ledger-Enquirer he wants to fill a gap for people looking for food after a night out.

“We imagine it’s going to be in high demand with the late operational hours,” Lake said. “With the Tap open on weekends, we want to catch everyone leaving who wants that last bite to sober up.”

Lake said the restaurant still is in early development phases, so exact hours and menu items are pending. He invites the community to weigh in with suggestions.

“If a group of customers ask for a specific item and we see a demand for it, we’re open to that,” Lake said. “The only way we’ll strive as a small business is by working with the community.”

Munchies will be the first-of-its-kind restaurant in Columbus. Tracey Green, director of marketing and communications at Uptown Columbus, a nonprofit dedicated to the economic growth of downtown Columbus, told the Ledger-Enquirer, “When we have businesses open like this, it’s an opportunity for people to come down and support these small businesses, shops and owners.”
