Bytes and Brews temporarily is closed. What’s happening at Columbus’ ‘first retro gamebar’

Bytes and Brews temporarily closed just over a year after the “gamebar” opened in downtown Columbus.

On March 17, the bar & restaurant at 117 12th St. announced on its Facebook page it will be closed for a few weeks. The closure is for improvements to the dining room and arcade to be completed. Early in March, Bytes and Brews closed its dining room for these updates.

Bytes and Brews opened in early 2024, offering a collection of arcade games like Pac-Man, Street Fighter and pinball machines.

The business was created to fill an entertainment gap in Columbus, co-owner Ben MacMinn told the Ledger-Enquirer when Bytes and Brews opened.

“We need a place to go to have good food and entertainment in the same space,” he said.

There are two levels in Bytes and Brews. The dining room, a bar and some arcade games are on the first floor, and more entertainment and arcade games are upstairs.

The Ledger-Enquirerasked MacMinn about the renovations, but he said the owners are not yet able to speak on what customers should expect from these improvements.

Although there isn’t a reopen date yet, Bytes and Brews should reopen in a few weeks, according to the Facebook post.

“We have a few major and exciting changes coming very soon!,” says the Facebook post.
