New restaurant sparks confusion for fans of this popular Columbus food spot

A new restaurant opening on Veterans Parkway in Columbus has caused a stir on social media — and some questions for a legacy restaurant.

In July, signage for a restaurant called “Golden Chopstix” went up at 6201 Veterans Pkwy., the site of former restaurant Zombie Pig BBQ.

Until this new restaurant, there has only been one Golden Chopsticks in Columbus. Golden Chopsticks, 3846 St. Marys Road, has been around since 1972. The restaurant is a popular spot for Columbus foodies with raving reviews from multiple commenters in the community.

One review on Facebook by Stacey McDaniel Rollins says, ”Golden Chopsticks NEVER disappoints! Another amazing meal at one of my favorite spots. We had the Kimbap appetizer. I had Lunch Special B, and my friend had Lunch Special A. SO GOOD!”

Despite the different spellings, the similar names of these two restaurants sparked rumors on the Columbus, GA Foodies Facebook page. People began thinking that their beloved Korean restaurant is moving seven miles away from St. Marys Road in south Columbus to Veterans Parkway in north Columbus.

In one thread, a user named Valerie Lindsey Cozbey wrote, “Wait…are you telling lies that the old Zombie Pig location off veterans WILL NOW BE THE NEW GOLDEN CHOPSTICKS???! You trying to convince me it will be up-the-road-a-piece now?!

Another commenter, Keeli Barker, responded, “No lies only truths. I seen it with my own two eyes!”

Customers have tagged both owners, Qwan and Nancy Lee, to get confirmation. They have not directly responded to the relocation rumors, but they assured customers that they are still operating at St. Marys Road.

In the foodies group, Telicia Lisa Burditt posted, “Has Golden Chopsticks relocated yet or still on St Marys Rd.?”

Nancy Lee responded, “Hi! We are still currently here off of St. Mary’s Rd. Can’t wait to see you Friday!” Lee also assured customers that she will post again in the Facebook group if or when they decide to relocate.

The Ledger-Enquirer reached out to Golden Chopsticks to ask whether their restaurant is connected to the Golden Chopstix on Veterans. The owners did not respond to the L-E’s request for comment, and the Golden Chopsticks manager declined to comment.

Interior construction is underway at Golden Chopstix, but it is in early stages. On Aug. 7, Zombie Pig BBQ signage still was on the restaurant’s front door.

It’s unclear when Golden Chopstix plans to open. The owners did not respond to the Ledger-Enquirer’s requests for comment.
