I think these are the best french fries in Columbus. Prove me wrong
If you’ve been reading my food reviews over the past few years, you know one food group I hold in high regard is french fries.
Yes, I know this is not actually a food group. However, nothing can break a meal like the side of fries being a soggy, slimy, limp mess. So I decided to make the side dish I love to be the main dish of today’s review.
The best french fries in Columbus are the dill fries at The Mix Market on Broadway. The fries pass all my tests. They are crispy on the outside with a soft and warm inside.
The salt and dill on the outside of each fry reminds me of the Golden Flake dill pickle chips I’d eat every weekend while watching Alabama football with a Coca-Cola in hand (much like Bear Bryant did back in the day).
Nowadays, I’ve switched to Coke Zero, but I feel a warm and happy nostalgia every time I go downtown to eat these fries. At one point, I’d bike downtown on Sundays and grab an order of the dill fries with two Pabst Blue Ribbons and watch life happen before me in downtown Columbus.
I always make sure to order an extra fry sauce — an addition that seems to make each fry taste like a loaded baked potato. If you think there are better fries in Columbus, please let me know.
Surprise fries at The Mix Market
Until L-E visual journalist Mike Haskey and I lunched there Thursday, I never knew The Mix Market also had sweet potato fries. And they were amazing, but the real star for those fries was the cinnamon glaze dip that came with them.
The glaze turned the sweet potato fries into a dessert-like dish.: sweet and creamy with a hint of cinnamon. It almost tasted like a cinnamon roll in fry form.
I definitely suggest them to anyone looking for a “sweet” treat in downtown Columbus.
Tasty entree at The Mix Market
Feeling like we needed to eat an actual entree for our lunch at The Mix Market, Mike and I ordered the Margherita pizza.
It’s my second favorite Margherita, with the first being the drink of a different spelling. The tomato sauce is very vibrant in taste with little acidity. The mozzarella chunks melted onto the pizza provide the perfect amount of cheesiness without hiding the taste of the sauce.
The fresh basil scattered around the pizza adds just that extra hint of earthiness to round out the overall taste. I only wish I had more of the tomato sauce to dip my crust in afterward.
For a mix of menu items, you can’t go wrong with The Mix Market. No matter what you choose for your entree, listen to me and order some of their fries..
