I pulled out the chopsticks for this dish at a Columbus Mexican restaurant

I love going to a sit-down Mexican restaurant, ordering a soda and stuffing my mouth with chips and salsa before my meal comes to the table. The experience can be therapeutic after a long week, especially if you replace the soda with a margarita.

With the weather turning colder, I’ve been wanting a warm soup that’s full of flavor. You may think this will be about chicken tortilla soup, which I do love, but is not the subject of this review.

What I am reviewing is the birria ramen from Me Encanta Modern Mexican Cuisine, 1231 Broadway, Suite 100, in downtown Columbus. It’s a dish that mixes the delicious nature of birria and the nostalgia of eating ramen in college.

I’ve always loved birria tacos with the consomme to dip them in. The thought of having the broth in a soup form made me want to run to the restaurant.

For those who might be wondering what birria is, it’s a meat cooked in a rich and vibrant broth of chiles, herbs and spices. This results in a very tender meat that practically falls apart at the touch.

It’s not every day you go to a Mexican restaurant and receive chopsticks with your meal. Thankfully, I’ve had some practice lately with my recent sushi review.

The soup looked amazing, topped with cilantro and onions. The first bite of the noodles was full of the rich vibrant flavor of the broth that had clearly made its way into the noodles.

The overall flavor profile has hints of garlic, oregano, cilantro, chiles and onion. The nice thing is the restaurant also gives you a bowl of cilantro and onions to add the amount you desire to the soup.

The meat was incredibly soft and tender. It fell apart when I’d try to pick it up with the chopsticks.

The meal also came with small pieces of crouton-like toasted bread that seemed to have some of the birria consomme on them. I enjoyed putting some of the ramen on them and hearing the slight crunch as I’d bite down.

I also must say: The chips and salsa were amazing. I stuck around to finish the salsa after eating my ramen.

If you’re downtown on a cold winter day and need something delicious that will keep you warm, I definitely recommend the birria ramen at Me Encanta.

The bright and festive decorations and atmosphere of the restaurant will also liven your mood.
