There’s nothing fishy about the shrimp and grits at this Columbus bait shop. Our review
At this point, y’all know one of my longest-held beliefs is that some of the most delicious food comes in some of the most unexpected places.
So, I was lured in by some Facebook posts about a place called The Bait Shop of Columbus Ga. The shop, 1107 54th St., is near a convenience store I reviewed in September.
Some people may be sketched out by the thought of eating at a bait shop. However, trust me when I say the only thing fishy about this place is the minnows they sell as bait.
Surprisingly (or maybe not, considering I’m from Alabama) this wasn’t my first time eating at a bait shop. While I was growing up, my grandfather took me to a bait shop in Alabama that served pretty good chili dogs and fries. However, The Bait Shop of Columbus Ga has a lot more options.
I ordered the shrimp and grits bowl with some andouille sausage.
The grits were soft and creamy with a hint of butter. The shrimp on top gave a Cajun spice to the dish as well as a fresh seafood taste. The andouille sausage was smoky and paired together nicely with the slight spice from the shrimp.
The grits also seemed to have a slight hint of onion, which was a nice surprise and twist to the dish.
Ledger-Enquirer visual journalist Mike Haskey joined me and ordered the breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg and cheese on a brioche bun.
I was jealous. His sandwich looked amazing, especially the bacon. One could say I was floundered by how good it looked. I’ll stop with the fish puns now.
So, if you’re in the neighborhood and craving a good breakfast meal, don’t hesitate to stop at The Bait Shop of Columbus Ga.
