We tried some drinks at the new Dutch Bros Coffee in Phenix City. Our review
When I started working at the Ledger-Enquirer over three years ago, I never really drank much coffee. My main supply of caffeine came from Coca-Cola, Mountain Dew or whatever soda I was feeling at the moment.
However, after being introduced to the plethora of coffee options around Columbus and Phenix City, I was enticed to drink more coffee.
With the opening of the first Dutch Bros Coffee location in the Columbus area, I decided to see what the hype was about for the brand I’ve heard about in passing from multiple friends in college.
So, Ledger-Enquirer visual journalist Mike Haskey and I hopped in my truck and headed over to the Dutch Bros at 2039 U.S. Highway 280-431 in Phenix City.
Good journalism has been produced riding the electric current that is drinking a pot of coffee at midnight while typing away at a story you’ve been working on for weeks, months or even years. However, this is not one of those types of stories, just a simple food review.
We grabbed four coffees, including the coffee for our business reporter, which we will not be reviewing. I tried a coffee and one of the unique energy drinks available at Dutch Bros.
For my coffee, I got an iced Mocha Cold Brew. Let me tell you, this coffee was strong, a good thing for those that like their coffee to taste like, well, coffee. The taste reminded me of when I went through a Guinness phase a few years ago.
As the saying used to go, “That’ll put some hair on your chest.” I enjoyed the dark, bitter taste and found the energy it provided refreshing.
Did I stop there? No.
To do my best to provide a useful review for you, I also tried the Double Rainbro Rebel option for the energy drink.
You can get this flavor in a sugar-free option, which I did. The coconut, strawberry and peach flavors all blended together nicely, creating a tropical-like beverage.
However, after having this energy drink and the coffee, I probably could’ve hit a fastball from a Columbus Clingstones pitcher with how alert I was. I apologize to my coworkers if I was too chatty afterward.
I also got to try Mike’s coffee. It wasn’t from Aruba or Jamaica, but I think I’ll take a Cocomo coffee any time. The coconut flavor in the coffee added a nice sweetness and easily could be sipped on all day. The chocolate milk in the coffee may have been why I liked it so much.
I definitely suggest it or any of the other drinks I mentioned if you decide to give Dutch Bros a try.
