They have breakfast down to a science. We tried this new Columbus restaurant
I’ve heard there’s a science to good food, but a mix of science and a passion for the food is what makes really great food.
At Breakfastology Cafe, 5156 River Road, Suite C, in Columbus, I think they may have figured out how to do just that.
Having seen a few posts about the new restaurant, which opened in March, Ledger-Enquirer visual journalist Mike Haskey and I decided to try it.
I had been craving some sausage gravy and was reminded of the amazing grits I had just a few weekends ago at a family reunion. So, I decided to get the best of both worlds and order the Gravy Grit Reaction.
The dish was a bowl filled with creamy grits and topped with sausage gravy, a sausage patty, scrambled eggs and cheese. I wasn’t sure how the grits and gravy were going to mix, as I’m used to eating my sausage gravy on top of biscuits.
However, I was very pleased with the flavor profile — and the “reaction” it had on my taste buds. The grits were creamy, smooth and not under-salted. The sausage gravy had a hearty and peppery flavor without being too overwhelming and overpowering the flavors of the other foods in the dish.
The scrambled eggs were incredibly fluffy and still moist. I hate it when restaurants overcook the scrambled eggs to where they become dry on the inside. The cheese was also nice along with the eggs.
The portion was a good size and easily left me feeling filled — a rare occasion for me.
Looking over their menu, I saw several items that were interesting, so I will likely have to head back sometime to try something new. Also, the prices weren’t bad and were comparable to some of the breakfast chains I’m used to eating at.
I’d definitely suggest checking out Breakfastology Cafe if you’re craving a good breakfast.
