Food & Drink

We tried the newest coffee chain to come to Columbus. Here’s our review

They say the news runs 24/7, and that typically means reporters have to as well. Now, who are they? I have no idea, but my guess is some people, somewhere.

What’s a better pick-me-up than a coffee or energy drink for when you have a long day at work — or just a long day in general?

I was having a day like that. So, I hopped in my truck with Ledger-Enquirer visual journalist Mike Haskey and L-E intern Madeline Shapiro to try the newly opened 7 Brew Drive Thru Coffee at 8133 Veterans Parkway in north Columbus.

I don’t believe I had ever been to a 7 Brew. I typically tend to go to one of the locally owned coffee shops downtown. However, I’m always down to try a new coffee spot.

So, I decided to try two drinks on the 7 Brew menu: the Cookie Butter Coffee and the Ocean Breeze 7 Energy.

The Cookie Butter Coffee was incredible. It tasted a lot like a Biscoff cookie. The drink tasted very smooth with a sweet flavor, and the caffeine definitely kicked in later.

I followed the coffee with the Ocean Breeze 7 Energy. I order the small size because I didn’t need to be up for 48 hours. The drink was very refreshing and super sweet with a strong blue raspberry flavor.

It reminded me heavily of the snowcones I ate every summer in my youth. There was also a slightly sweet taste of coconut. However, the blue raspberry flavor was a lot stronger than the coconut flavor.

Madeline got a Banana Bread Mocha, which had banana and hazelnut flavoring. She said the drink indeed tastes like banana bread. She said it wasn’t too sweet, with a hint of banana and a hint of chocolate from the mocha.

If you haven’t been, I definitely recommend 7 Brew. We had to enter through the road that leads to Old Town and through the back entrance. However, the line ran smoothly and wasn’t too busy.

I wouldn’t suggest getting 7 coffee brews for just you, but one will definitely do (bad pun I know, but at least it rhymed).
