Atlanta-based brewery expands a tasting room and beer garden to Columbus

The Cotton Companies, a real estate development and investment firm based in Columbus, has announced the addition of Scofflaw Brewing Co., one of the country’s fastest growing breweries, to Midcity Yards. This will be Scofflaw’s first expansion outside of its Atlanta origins. The new Columbus location is set to open late 2022 and will occupy approximately 9,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space at Midcity Yards, which includes a tasting room, brewing facility and beer garden.

Atlanta-based Scofflaw Brewing Co. is scheduling to open a Columbus location by the end of this year.

Scofflaw will be part of Midcity Yards, 1429 Sixth Ave., where the Cotton Companies are revitalizing the former Uneeda Glass factory with a mixed-used development.

At Midcity Yards, the brewery will join Fetch Park, a dog park bar that opened in September, and a Moe’s Original BBQ franchise, which is also expected to open this year. An unspecified boutique fitness center is targeted to fill the remaining space.

This will be Scofflaw’s first location outside Atlanta.

“Columbus is the perfect city for new expansion,” Scofflaw founder and CEO Matt Shirah said in a news release. “When we opened on the west side of Atlanta, there was hardly any commercial activity in our immediate area. Since opening doors in 2016, Scofflaw has served as an anchor for our community. We’ve seen commercial development explode around us, positively shifting the future of the neighborhood.

“We couldn’t be more excited to join Midcity Yards on a project that we believe will have the same incredible long-term effect in such an exciting and active place like Columbus.”

Scofflaw will occupy approximately 9,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space at Midcity Yards, including a tasting room, brewing facility and beer garden. Scofflaw plans to brew most of its beers being produced in Atlanta and launch new recipes in Columbus as well.

“The vision of Midcity Yards was to create a destination where all people could casually cross paths and connect,” Cotton Companies president Chris Woodruff said in the news release. “Columbus is ready for a brand like Scofflaw. It isn’t just because they brew some of the best beer in the country; it’s because they know how to foster community.

“We view Midcity as the link between Uptown and Midtown Columbus, and Scofflaw, along with its other tenants, will help to bring vibrant energy to an area that has been dormant for far too long. It’s the key to connecting this great city in many different ways.”
