Paws Humane opens second pet food pantry

A temporary pet food pantry will open Saturday to help pet owners, organizations and animal rescues during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Paws Humane will offer free dog food assistance and distribution not only to pet owners in the Chattahoochee Valley, but also to its regional shelter partners in neighboring counties like Russell, Harris, Troup and Meriwether. The shelter received 68,000 pounds of Landmark by American Journey dog food from Best Friends Animal Society and its corporate partners.

“Paws Humane Society is committed to the residents of Columbus and the Chattahoochee Valley in meeting the needs of families, community and other rescue organizations, facing food insecurity for their pets,” Paws Humane Society CEO Tricia Montgomery said. “The response has been overwhelming and the support, even more so. We are leaning on each other and learning what it truly means to be a community.”

Paws Humane Society is located at 4900 Milgen Road in Columbus. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and the pantry is open to all pet owners in the Chattahoochee Valley needing dog food assistance.

No appointment is necessary.

Due to the specific donation received, only Landmark by American Journey Dog Food is available.
